Ghosting Infill

WHAT’S THE ISSUE?

The final print looks good, but the infill structure inside can be seen from the outer walls of the model.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

∙ Wall Thickness Not Appropriate

∙ Print Setting Not Appropriate

∙ Unlevel Print Bed

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Wall Thickness Not Appropriate

In order to bond the walls with the infill structure better, the infill structure will overlap the perimeter line of the walls. However, the wall is too thin and the infill can be seen through the walls.

CHECK THE SHELL THICKNESS

Ghosting Infill may be caused that the wall thickness is not an integral multiple of the nozzle size. If the diameter of the nozzle is 0.4mm, the thickness of the wall must be 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, and so on.

INCREASE THE SHELL THICKNESS

The easiest way is to increase the thickness of the thin wall. You can cover the overlap with the by setting a double thickness.

Print Setting Not Appropriate

According to the type of model to be printed, you can choose to print the shell or the infill first. If you are pursuing a delicate appearance and think that the strength of the model is not so important, you can choose to print the shell first, but in this case the bonding between the infill structure and the shell will not be so good. If you think the strength is also important, you can double the thickness of the shell while choosing to print the infill first.

USE INFILL AFTER PERIMETERS

Most slicing software can set to print infill after perimeters. In Cura, for example, open “Expert Settings”, under the infill section, click “Infill prints after perimeters”. In Simply3D, click “Edit Process Settings”-”Layer”-”Layer Settings”-select “Outside-in” next to “Outline Direction”.

Unlevel Print Bed

Check the surroundings of the model. If the ghosting infill is only appeared in one direction but not in the other direction, it means that the printing bed is unlevel and needs to be recalibrated.

CHECK PRINT PLATFORM

Use the automatic leveling function of the printer. Or manually leveling the print bed, move the nozzle clockwise or counterclockwise to the four corners of the printing bed in turn, and make the distance between the nozzle and the printing bed about 0.1mm. You can use a printing paper for assistance.
